OPERATION LINGO — PRIVACY POLICY

Operation Lingo ("Operation Lingo", "we", "our") is operated by Bülent Özer (the "Operator"). This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. The short version: we collect the minimum needed to run the app, we do not sell your data, and we do not use your microphone audio for anything other than verifying your spoken response in real time.
1. Who this applies to
This policy applies to people who use the Operation Lingo mobile app (currently Android, with iOS planned for V2), the website at operationlingo.net, and any related services (collectively, the "Service").
2. Data we collect
We collect three categories of information:
- Account information. When you enlist, we collect your email address (and your Google ID if you sign in via Google, as an identifier only — we do not receive your password). You may use a pseudonym in place of your real name.
- Gameplay state. Your Clearance Level, Multiplier, Morale, AWOL count, mission history, and Captain Mode subscription status. This is stored on your device and, once you sign in, on our backend.
- Microphone audio (B1+ Clearance only). When you respond to a mission with your voice, your audio is sent to a speech-to-text service for the sole purpose of verifying whether you spoke the correct Spanish phrase. The audio is processed in real time and is not stored on our servers, not used for advertising, and not used to train any model.
- Crash and diagnostic logs. Standard error reports with personally identifying information removed.
- Device identifiers. A randomly-generated install ID for entitlement and analytics. Not linkable to your real identity.
3. What we do with it
- Run the app and your missions (account, gameplay state).
- Send you mission emails, Flash Traffic alerts, and Captain Mode receipts (email).
- Verify your spoken response in real time (microphone audio — purged immediately).
- Diagnose bugs and crashes (logs).
- Process Captain Mode subscriptions through Google Play Billing.
4. Third parties we share data with
We use the following third-party services. Each receives only the data necessary for the named purpose:
- Brevo — transactional and marketing email. Receives your email address. Their privacy policy.
- ElevenLabs — Spanish text-to-speech. Receives the text the in-app NPC speaks (Spanish phrase strings). Does NOT receive your audio. Their privacy policy.
- Google Gemini API — mission scenario generation. Receives the input variables (clearance level, environment, variant). Does NOT receive any personal data. Their terms.
- OpenAI Whisper or equivalent STT (B1+ only) — speech-to-text. Receives your spoken audio for transcription. Audio is not retained.
- Google Play Billing — payment processing for Captain Mode subscriptions. Subject to Google's policies.
- Netlify — hosts our website and form handler. Subject to Netlify's privacy policy.
We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not share your data with advertisers.
5. Data retention
- Email addresses and gameplay state: retained while your account is active. You can request deletion at any time (see Section 8).
- Microphone audio: not stored. Processed and discarded immediately after transcription.
- Crash logs: 90 days, then deleted.
- Captain Mode subscription records: retained as required by tax law (typically 7 years).
6. Where your data lives
Servers and third-party processors operate in the European Union and the United States. By using Operation Lingo, you consent to processing in those jurisdictions.
7. Children's privacy
Operation Lingo is rated Teen on Google Play. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with information, contact us at privacy@operationlingo.net and we will delete it.
8. Your rights
Regardless of jurisdiction, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate data.
- Delete your account and all associated personal data ("Right to be Forgotten").
- Export your data in a portable format.
- Withdraw consent at any time (resulting in account deletion).
- Object to processing or lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@operationlingo.net. We respond within 30 days.
9. Security
We use HTTPS for all network traffic, encrypt sensitive data at rest, and limit administrative access to authorized operators. No security system is perfect. If you discover a vulnerability, please email security@operationlingo.net.
10. Changes to this policy
We will update this policy as the Service evolves. Material changes will be announced in-app and by email at least 14 days before they take effect. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent version.
